Building KUKULCAN Process Update

January 29th, Dr. No Laboratory, France

Update on the build process of Dr. No’s newest creation, the KUKULCAN. As you’re probably aware, Dr. No’s effects are always handmade. Every part is meticulously crafted, concepts are thought out, and tonal design is done to the highest level. The KUKULCAN is no exception. This time, the bar is set even higher.

Integrating Dr. No’s own transistors, the “Skullsistors,” took more effort and time than expected. The time and investment required were underestimated, but they’re almost ready to equip the KUKULCAN.

Meanwhile, the housing is coated and the design is silkscreened by Dr. No. There was a challenge with the KUKULCAN print on the front. The goal was to have it flocked for a more tangible, beastly effect, which worked out better than expected.

The knobs Dr. No envisioned didn’t exist, so they were sculpted and cast exactly as imagined. The in-house made knobs get a flock layer to fit the KUKULCAN’s overall feel.

Dr. No is working 24/7 to get the first series of 50 KUKULCANs ready by end of February. Only 100 handmade copies will be made. To secure one, send a message to info@drno-effects.com or subscribe to the newsletter at www.drno-effects.com

“The Sonic Sorcerer, Dr. No Effects,  Unleashes a New Pedal Saga”

As the inventor and creator behind Dr. No Effects, I immerse myself in the worlds of the musicians I collaborate with, conjuring up a symphony of sounds and images that fuel my creativity. My effects pedals are not just devices – they’re gateways to new dimensions, crafted to capture the essence of the artists I work with. My work are individual stories that tell a tale.

“A Pedigree of Sonic Experimentation”

I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most innovative musicians in the industry, including Alain Johannes, Chris Cornell, Troy van Leeuwen, Brian Ray, and David Catching and many others. Each project pushes the boundaries of sound and art, and I’m excited to take it to the next level.

“Introducing the Guitar Effects Action Hero Series”

Imagine a world where musicians become superheroes, and their signature sounds are the superpowers. I’m launching a series of limited-edition pedals, each one a bespoke creation tailored to the unique characteristics of the musician. The first hero in this saga is David Catching, and I’m gunning to create the next King Buzzo (Melvins) – the ultimate sonic force to be reckoned with.

“The Final Goal”

I like your creative your help to turn the most out there and legendary musicians into Guitar Effects Action Heroes! Share your favorite musician that you like to see turned into a Dr. No Guitar Effects Action Hero”, to see if it’s a good candidate for a sonic makeover and include them in one of Dr. No’s Guitar Effects Action Hero Series” Each Action Hero Effect will come in custom action hero blister packaging, with features, limited to 100 handmade copies per release.

Dr. No’s  approach with the KUKULCAN project.

“I took an old design I created, a fuzz/

boost with three gain stages that felt excessive in a single circuit, and dissected it.

By separating these stages into their own individual circuits, I discovered a completely different effect than when they were combined.

This new configuration gives you three separate volume gain potentiometers, one for each stage, allowing for a vast range of tonal possibilities without sacrificing your unique playing style or the characteristics of your instrument and effects used in combination.

The gain potential is immense, far beyond the usual limits – think 30 instead of 10, if you will and to talk in Spinal Tap metaphors…

The transistors in each gain stage are used in an unconventional way, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind sound.

My custom “Skullsistors” play a key role in the KUKULCAN’s unique tone.
Yes…..the KUKULCAN gets his own transistors, that I call “Skullsitors”, The KUKULCAN is equiped with 3 of them.
Custom made and exclusively for the KUKULCAN.

The Prototype of KUKULCAN is on a world tour, where I asked some of my best musician friends and honest critics to test it thoroughly to provide me with Feedback to fine tune the KUKULCAN before the fisrt serie is going to be made.

“I finally had time to test your pedal. It’s a beast, the kind of animal you need to open a portal straight to hell. Here are my impressions : every stage is really colorful and dynamic, I love how it follows my play when I’m in fingerpicking, it’s really an extension of the soul. It’s deep, viby and it saturates really naturally with the gameplay. Just turning on the pedal transport me in another universe of sound. The issue I had by stacking the stages together is the volume … this pedal is an amp ! ( 3 amps actually ). It was like driving a 2000HP muscle car in a old village of the south of France ( you feel like a king but you’re scary as shit 🙂 I had to set my amp volume really low to try it without killing myself, but I found a lovely compromise and I quickly started composing instead of testing the sound. That’s THE argument for me to buy guitars or any gear. I really think that this pedal is insane just with a guitar, an amp and a fucking stadium ! ( and a 15 meters guitar cable 🙂 . It’s definitely radical and badass. It’s not for everyone … It’s the master and you’re the slave … you feel humble, and like the sun , you can’t fix it straight in the eyes cause it’s a beautiful thermonuclear explosion !”
