Artist Statement: Siamese Twin SkullFuzz

For the ones who isn’t familiar with the two decade long endeavor of Dr. No Effects, I don’t only build high end analog guitar effects. Dr. No builds portraits, Dr. No creates “beings”.

Where the Sound Dr. No’s medium, and the guitar pedal his canvas.

Each piece starts with a muse — an artist, a song, a memory. From that, Dr. No creates a metaphor, a story, and a concept.

Dr. No is not interested in making objects you only look at. Dr. No is interested in multidimensional artifacts you can play. Where concept, design, cosmetics, and sound all point to the same subject. The goal is a total work: something that represents the artist in every dimension, and hopefully inspires the person who plays it.

The Siamese Twin SkullFuzz is one of those artifacts.

It began as an attempt to distill an album, and a moment in my life, into a single cohesive object. The source is Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins, 1993.

To do that, Dr. No had to study the record sonically and emotionally.
What made it cut? What made it huge?
Dr. No chose his legendary SkullFuzz because its form and concept could hold all of that weight.
Then came a 3-month excavation — part engineering, part obsession — to make the idea real.

The circuit mirrors the album. Two elements dominate Siamese Dream: Distortion and Chorus/Phaser.

The Distortion is a 4-stage overdrive. Dr. No totally rebuilt His Kafuzz from the ground up to reach that sound: deep, saturated, but still sharp enough to slice. The tone stack was the hardest part to get right.

The Chorus had to become something else. It’s a hybrid Chorus/Phaser that drifts, at times, into UniVibe territory — the exact kind of movement you hear all over the record.

Visually, Dr. No wanted the immediacy and rawness of the album cover.
Two girls. One image. The illusion of twins.

So Dr. No fused two cast SkullFuzz.
Not to be literal, but to hold the idea of duality, of being bound together.
Those kids are adults now. What remains of us eventually is bare bone.
“I started wondering: if you’re a Siamese twin, do you die at the same time.

That question became part of the piece — a secret, a relic kept like a potion in a dusty basement, waiting to be found and activated to release it’s potion to circles back to the Magick of Siamese Dream.

The Siamese Twin SkullFuzz is housed like a curiosity cabinet.
A charged object you carry. It accumulates the weight of the album and returns it as sound.

This will be a series of 5. Each one is built to order and can be customized in color, because an artifact like this should feel personal and exclusive.

Because of the level of detail, each build takes 8 weeks.

It’s not just an effect.

It’s a record, a memory, and a ritual — in pedal form.
