Who the Fuck is Dr. No?

After ten years, Dr. No and Troy Van Leeuwen reunite for a new collaboration.

What started as a celebration of the ten-year anniversary of the now legendary Dr. No and TvL series — the Raven and Octavia, which the two cooked up ten years ago — quickly turned into an exchange of new, evolving ideas to create something new. Release end of October 2026.

Dr. No was already working on a very limited “Decade Edition Box” to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the two artistic pedals created by TvL and Dr. No in 2016, but the project quickly spiraled out of control in terms of its sheer scale.

Dr. No has now been building for 4 months on a very limited, artistic, fully handmade collector’s edition box containing the two legendary TvL effects, along with all kinds of related trinkets, such as a TvL seal stamp, a candle holder made of solder tin with a custom-made candle, issued once in an edition of only 10 handmade collector’s items.

During the process of making the TvL Decade Collector’s Edition box, the idea emerged to add a third new creation — a new guitar effect, perhaps a work of art, or perhaps a combination of both, as Dr. No likes to operate.

Ten years ago, during the creation process of the TvL series (Octavia and Raven), there was no shortage of inspiration and stories to let Dr. No’s imagination run wild — in fact, there were too many. That’s why it was necessary at the time to create not one but two creations, to release everything in a measured way without descending into total, indefinable chaos. However, one idea remained in the drawer…

This drawer was reopened this summer, because a good idea sometimes needs time to assemble itself into completeness. Dr. No and TvL had already hinted at this idea before, hidden in the TvL Octavia, where under the left skull knob, the name “Blameshifter” is printed…

The idea for the Blameshifter is an old idea from the gentlemen of Queens of the Stone Age, long before the collaboration with Dr. No started in 2016. The idea — or rather, the joke during rehearsals — was that they wanted a guitar effect that could shift the blame for a self-inflicted mistake to the other band members’ amplifiers, thus shifting the blame to someone else. That’s where the Blameshifter was born. Only as an idea, not yet in reality and functionality.

Until the summer of 2026… When a previously made severed finger literally fell out of Dr. No’s drawer of ideas, and all the puzzle pieces for the Blameshifter fell into place.

A short text message with a severed finger on an effect enclosure with the text “I think I’ve got the Blameshifter!” set all the creative engines in motion again, and we decided to develop it. Troy came up with brilliant ideas and implementations that turned the Blameshifter into a true wizard’s staff and an ingenious switching circuit — a multi-tool for guitarists to generate switching between 3 positions. And the severed finger… it points to the position where the signal flows when engaged.

The Severed  Bloody Finger is the Selector Switch, just flip the finger into the pre-set of your choice or to shift the blame.

The ingenious labyrinth of the Blameshifter

At first glance, the Blameshifter looks simple, and the question will arise, “but what does the Blameshifter actually do?” We will explain it to you in detail.

The Blameshifter has 1 input for your guitar signal. This input immediately goes into a very high-quality buffer circuit, which ensures that from that point on the signal loses no quality when routing it to one of the four outputs the Blameshifter has.

When the Blameshifter is off, the signal goes from the input through the buffer to the OUT. This signal is then a buffered signal. When you engage the Blameshifter, you switch the signal to one of the three outputs the severed finger is pointing to.

How are these three outputs switched and usable?

Output 1 on the left side on top of the pedal. When pointing the severed finger to that position, this output can function in two ways. As a send, for example to send the buffered signal to another amplifier, or as an effects loop, because Output 1 also has a return input on the right side of the Blameshifter. The signal from your created effects loop is then engaged, buffered, and comes out of your original output on the left side. If you switch it off again, you deactivate this effects loop. This gives you the ability to engage multiple effects at once without having to tap-dance to switch everything on one by one.

Output 3 functions exactly the same as Output 1, which gives you the ability to create and engage not one but two effects loops with the Blameshifter, or to route the signal to another amplifier.

Output 2 is another little ingenious marvel. Output 2 in the middle sends a signal to another amp and can function as an A/B switch; of course, this output is also buffered. But… on the left side there is a micro switch, where you can choose to use only Output 2 when engaged and bypass your original output, or you can flip the micro switch to also use your original output when engaging Output 2, for example to add an extra amp.

The Blameshifter is a new creation by Dr. No and TvL. Fully handmade and conceived from scratch. Created from a passion for instruments, art, music, and creation.

Because Dr. No Effects are made by hand from A to Z by Dr. No himself, Dr. No’s creations are not mass-produced products and are subject to limited availability. Please therefore take into account slightly longer waiting times if a creation is temporarily out of stock in his Labshop. They will then be carefully remade by hand.

SIAMESE SKULLFUZZ A PORTRAIT OF SIAMESE DREAM

“The Siamese Twin SkullFuzz is a playable portrait of Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins.
With the guitar effect as Dr. No’s canvas Fused Dr. No SkullFuzzes, that houses a hybrid Chorus/Phaser and a 4-stage Distortion capture the weight, duality and intensity of the record.”

Artist Statement: Siamese Twin SkullFuzz

For the ones who isn’t familiar with the two decade long endeavor of Dr. No Effects, I don’t only build high end analog guitar effects. Dr. No builds portraits, Dr. No creates “beings”.

Where the Sound Dr. No’s medium, and the guitar pedal his canvas.

Each piece starts with a muse — an artist, a song, a memory. From that, Dr. No creates a metaphor, a story, and a concept.

Dr. No is not interested in making objects you only look at. Dr. No is interested in multidimensional artifacts you can play. Where concept, design, cosmetics, and sound all point to the same subject. The goal is a total work: something that represents the artist in every dimension, and hopefully inspires the person who plays it.

The Siamese Twin SkullFuzz is one of those artifacts.

It began as an attempt to distill an album, and a moment in my life, into a single cohesive object. The source is Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins, 1993.

To do that, Dr. No had to study the record sonically and emotionally.
What made it cut? What made it huge?
Dr. No chose his legendary SkullFuzz because its form and concept could hold all of that weight.
Then came a 3-month excavation — part engineering, part obsession — to make the idea real.

The circuit mirrors the album. Two elements dominate Siamese Dream: Distortion and Chorus/Phaser.

The Distortion is a 4-stage overdrive. Dr. No totally rebuilt His Kafuzz from the ground up to reach that sound: deep, saturated, but still sharp enough to slice. The tone stack was the hardest part to get right.

The Chorus had to become something else. It’s a hybrid Chorus/Phaser that drifts, at times, into UniVibe territory — the exact kind of movement you hear all over the record.

Visually, Dr. No wanted the immediacy and rawness of the album cover.
Two girls. One image. The illusion of twins.

So Dr. No fused two cast SkullFuzz.
Not to be literal, but to hold the idea of duality, of being bound together.
Those kids are adults now. What remains of us eventually is bare bone.
“I started wondering: if you’re a Siamese twin, do you die at the same time.

That question became part of the piece — a secret, a relic kept like a potion in a dusty basement, waiting to be found and activated to release it’s potion to circles back to the Magick of Siamese Dream.

The Siamese Twin SkullFuzz is housed like a curiosity cabinet.
A charged object you carry. It accumulates the weight of the album and returns it as sound.

This will be a series of 5. Each one is built to order and can be customized in color, because an artifact like this should feel personal and exclusive.

Because of the level of detail, each build takes 8 weeks.

It’s not just an effect.

It’s a record, a memory, and a ritual — in pedal form.

FROM AI TO ANALOG DR. NO SKULLFUZZ BUILD

From AI to Analog

Recently, a client commissioned me to build a custom SkullFuzz based on his idea and color scheme. I don’t normally take on commissions like this because I don’t have the time.

But the client had a great idea. He provided an AI-generated image to communicate his vision as clearly as possible. That led to three weeks of working between projects and late nights in the workshop, turning a digitally created concept into a physical reality.

I really enjoyed it. Especially seeing people bring ideas they want realized in the analog world, so they can actually use them. I plan to do more of these if someone comes with a good concept.
